2007

January: No meeting

February: Wine tasting at the West End Wine Bar in Chapel Hill.

March: Dr. Avni Rampersaud of Chapel Hill Pediatric Dentistry discussed dental health for children.

April: Dorette and Renee of C'est Si Bon! Cooking School demonstrated making Vietnamese Summer Rolls and talked about cooking with your kids.

May: A pediatrician, a post-partum nurse, and a post-partum doula spoke at a panel for new mothers.

June: Club members sampled baked goods and discussed how to have a stress-free kids party.

July: No meeting.

August: Maureen Dolan Rosen of the Cash Management Connection discussed how to talk to kids about money and to help them develop good spending and saving habits.

September: A group of Mothers Club members with their own businesses talked about their experiences running those businesses.

October: Scott Conary of Carrboro Coffee Company and Caffe Driade gave a history of coffee and its production and provided five coffees for members to taste.

November: Amy Lippmann, a holistic health counselor, discussed "How to Look Good, Feel Good and Achieve a Healthy Body."

December: Representatives from the Mothers Club service committee and local charity organizations offered suggestions/options for giving back to the community.

2006

January: No meeting

February: Mark Prokop, of Friends of Triangle Seniors and Food Assistance, discussed his program, and its needs. Club members also discussed other local charities and programs in need of volunteers, and talk about involving children in volunteer activities.

March: Psychologist Dr. Rita Madrazo-Peterson discussed "Keeping the Love Alive in Your Marriage," concerning the issues couples face in their relationship after they have children.

April: Perri Kersh, of Neat Freak Professional Organizing, talked about ways to be more organized and reduce clutter.

May: John Marold, attorney at law, discussed estate planning, including funding and drafting living trusts and life insurance trusts, wills, special needs trusts, deeds, and other asset protection techniques.

June: Chocolate tasting, led by Janet Elbetri, a chocolatier, Mothers Club member, and co-owner of Sandwhich restaurant in Chapel Hill.

July: No meeting

August: Kimberly Stephenson, a registered dietician at UNC Hospitals, talked about nutrition.

September: Playgroup mixer to help members form new playgroups and expand existing ones.

October: Celebration of the club's birthday with a cheese tasting presented by Whole Foods Market.

November: Teresa Leigh discussed tips for maintainging one's home and how the "rich and famous" maintain their homes.

December: Holiday coffee and cookie/recipe exchange

2005

January: No meeting

February: Kelley Knight, a registered nurse and owner of Holistic Stress Management in Carrboro, discussed therapies for the mind, body, and spirit.

March: Keri Lawrence, MD, a Mothers Club member and physician at Carrboro Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, talked about "How to Take Care of Super Mom: The Basics of Preventive Medicine and the Latest Guidelines for Health Care Screening."

April: Shane Folds and Barbara Deberry, financial representatives with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, speak about the many ways to save for children's future educational expenses.

May: Personal chef Terri McClernon described the services she provides as The Food Fairy, including cooking for special occasions, making a week's worth of meals, menu planning, grocery shopping, etc.

June: Chocolate tasting, led by Janet Elbetri, a chocolatier, Mothers Club member, and co-owner of Sandwhich restaurant in Chapel Hill.

July: A resource officer from the Chapel Hill Police Department's Community Service Unit spoke about safety tips and self defense, especially for women with children in tow.

August: A panel of Mothers Club members who own and run their own businesses share their stories, experiences, and advice regarding starting and running a business while also being a full-time mother.

September: Dr. Marie Hardy, a dermatologist with Blue Ridge Dermatology Associates in Raleigh, discussed a variety of skin care issues.

October: A tea- and dessert-tasting, led by Shery Armstrong of Sips Coffee & Tea in Durham, to celebrate the club's fifth birthday.

November: Kathy Kelly, Lifestyle Enhancement Director at the UNC Wellness Center at Meadowmont, gave advice on getting in shape and staying fit, finding a trainer that suits you/your needs, and working out with kids in tow.

December: Meaghan Rice, a club member and former pastry cook, gave a cooking demonstration for Fruit Almond Cakes. Members also brought along sweet and savory items and exchanged recipes.

2004

January: Ingrid Tung, director of the Suzuki Academy of North Carolina, talked about the Suzuki method of music learning.

February: Megan Hazelman of the Center for Environmental Health and Susceptibility at UNC-Chapel Hill presented a workshop about breast cancer.

March: Allie Mendelsohn of Multiple Strategies, a parenting resource specializing in families with multiples, talked about how mothers who have multiples and children spaced closely together can take care of themselves.

April: Scotti Harwood, an executive and life coach, talked about "Promises You Can Live With," concerning how people can alleviate much of their stress and suffering if they are mindful about the quality and quantity of the promises they make.

May: Dr. Margaret Morris of Chapel Hill Childrens Clinic gave a talk on "Poop! Diarrhea, Constipation: When to be Concerned and When Not To," including such topics as lactose intolerance, rotovirus, dehydration, and food poisoning.

June: Natalie Mason-Fry, an occupational therapist at Emerge--A Child's Place (a pediatric occupational therapy provider in Chapel Hill) talked about typical and atypical fine and gross motor skill development.

July: No speaker

August: No speaker

September: Melinda Abrams of LifePowerCoaching discussed different parenting perspectives: peoples' thoughts about parenting before having children; what they have learned since becoming parents; and what they would like to learn.

October: Officer Robin Clark of the Chapel Hill Police Department gave a talk and answers questions regarding child safety, and demonstrates the correct way to install a car seat.

November: Dr. Jonathan Williams, an assistant clinical professor at Chatham Crossing Medical Center, spoke about the flu--what it is, how to treat it, when to call the doctor, how to protect your family, and the situation with the flu shot shortage.

December: Amy Mackin of "Organizing with Amy", a professional organizer specializing in helping families with young children, described simple, practical tips to help reduce clutter.
