Accreditation: We have been accredited by NAEYC for many years, but chose not to participate in the recently revised system. We have a four-star license from the state of North Carolina.
Application deadline: We will begin enrolling for the Fall of 2014 in January. Applications accepted anytime. Waiting list ordered by date of application.
Application fee: $50, non-refundable
School starts: Same start date as public schools.
School runs: Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Class size: One mixed-age group of 12 children with two teachers.
Student:teacher ratio: 1:6
Boy/girl quota: We try to balance our group by gender; this year we have six girls and six boys.
How toilet-trained do children need to be? Not an issue.
Parental participation required: We are a cooperative that expects parents to be in close communication with teachers. Parents also have opportunities to volunteer on the board, in the classroom, and participate in administrative and maintenance work as these tasks fit their expertise and interest. We sponsor many community-building events as well.
Special features: Our program offers children access to many, many beautiful and open-ended materials for exploration and expression; nurtures and inspires children’s relationship with nature; and focuses on helping children create and live well in the community, including learning about diversity and conflict resolution.
